NSA-CDX @ USMA 2010

The United States Military Academy at West Point invited The Center for Cyber Security and Intelligence to observe the 10th Annual Cyber Defense Exercise (CDX). Cyber Defense Teams from the 5 U.S. service academies competed to win the CDX trophy. These teams are U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Coast Guard Academy, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, U.S. Naval Academy, and West Point.

At West Point, the U.S.M.A. cyber warriors designed their network systems according to NSA specifications. The cadets were given a budget along with strict rules of engagement. For this exercise, they were permitted to only use FreeBSD and Windows Server 2008. Network servers were configured for specified services that end users must have access to, including: a mail server, FTP, Active Directory and a DNS server.
